How PickTogether works

One question, one link, one shared decision.

PickTogether is built for ordinary group choices where a short list of options is more useful than another long message thread. The creator writes a question, adds realistic choices, shares the generated link, and lets the group choose without creating accounts. The product then keeps the voting state, results rules, and creator controls in one place.

01

Create the decision

Write one focused question and add a short set of choices. PickTogether currently accepts up to eight choices. The best polls use options that are already feasible, comparable, and safe for the group to choose among.

02

Share one clean link

After creation, the decision gets a random public link identifier. Send that link to the people who should participate. The creator's private control key is kept separately in the creator's browser and is not added to the shared URL.

03

Vote without an account

A voter opens the link and chooses one option. PickTogether creates a random anonymous browser identifier so the service can recognize that browser's existing vote. The identifier is used to update the vote instead of creating a duplicate if the voter changes their choice while voting is open.

04

See results at the right time

While a decision is active, a person who has not voted does not receive the real totals. After voting, that voter can see current results. When the creator closes the decision or its deadline expires, final results can be shown without requiring a prior vote.

05

Use creator controls

New decisions receive a private owner key. The creator can use it to close voting, reopen voting, and set or remove a future deadline. The application stores only a one-way hash of that key in its database; the raw key stays with the creator unless they explicitly copy it as a backup.

06

Act on the result

PickTogether helps reveal group preference; it does not book restaurants, buy tickets, reserve hotels, or make external changes for you. The useful final step is still human: agree in advance what the result means, then have one person carry out the next action.

Why results are hidden before an active vote

Showing current totals before someone chooses can influence an otherwise independent preference. PickTogether therefore keeps active pre-vote totals out of the response for that viewer. This is a product choice for casual decisions, not a claim that the poll is scientifically anonymous, tamper-proof, or suitable for formal elections.

What 'anonymous' means here

The product does not require voter names, email addresses, phone numbers, public profiles, advertising identifiers, device fingerprints, or IP addresses in the application database. It does use a random browser identifier so one browser can have one active vote per decision. Cloudflare may still process standard network metadata to deliver and protect the service.

What PickTogether is not for

Do not use PickTogether as an official election system, legal voting mechanism, medical decision tool, identity verification system, financial approval workflow, disciplinary process, or any other high-stakes process that requires verified identity, audit guarantees, formal authorization, or professional judgment.
