Safety & content guidelines

Use PickTogether for ordinary choices, not harmful or high-stakes decisions.

PickTogether lets a creator write a question and choices that are visible to anyone who receives the decision link. That makes the creator responsible for keeping the wording appropriate for a shared casual decision. These guidelines explain the intended boundary of the service and the kinds of content that should stay out of a PickTogether poll.

Good uses

Use PickTogether for low-risk preferences where every listed option is acceptable: choosing a restaurant, movie, meeting time, casual activity, trip shortlist, party direction, review format, or another everyday group choice. A good poll helps people compare realistic options and makes it clear what happens after voting.

No official elections or legal voting

PickTogether does not verify legal identity, voter eligibility, one-person-one-vote across devices, jurisdiction, ballot secrecy, chain of custody, independent auditing, or election administration. Do not use it for government elections, union elections, shareholder votes, legal approvals, official ballots, or any process where a vote has formal legal effect.

No medical, financial, employment, or disciplinary decisions

A casual preference poll should not decide treatment, medication, emergency action, financial authorization, lending, hiring, firing, compensation, promotion, disciplinary action, student punishment, safeguarding, or another decision that requires qualified judgment, due process, verified authorization, or professional responsibility.

Do not put sensitive personal information in a poll

Do not include passwords, authentication codes, payment-card data, bank details, government identifiers, private addresses, medical records, private contact details, precise live location, confidential work information, intimate personal information, or other secrets in the question or choices. The decision link is shareable access, not a secure vault, and anyone who obtains it can read the poll content.

No harassment, humiliation, or targeting people

Do not create polls that rank people's worth, invite bullying, shame an individual, encourage harassment, expose private allegations, coordinate abuse, or ask a group to target someone. Polls about classmates, coworkers, family members, or other identifiable people should stay away from sensitive traits, popularity contests, accusations, punishment, or content that could reasonably cause harm.

No illegal, violent, or exploitative content

Do not use PickTogether to plan, promote, request, facilitate, or celebrate illegal activity, violence, exploitation, abuse, sexual content involving minors, trafficking, theft, fraud, weapons misuse, dangerous wrongdoing, or instructions intended to harm people or property. If the underlying activity should not be coordinated, a poll should not be used to coordinate it either.

Keep minors and classrooms low-risk

For younger participants, follow the rules of the school, organization, parent, or guardian responsible for technology and safeguarding. Do not collect unnecessary student information. Classroom use should stay limited to safe preference choices such as an approved activity or topic and should never replace teacher responsibility, assessment, discipline, consent, or safeguarding decisions.

A noindex poll is not a private room

Real poll pages are marked noindex and nofollow so they are not intended to become public search-result pages. That reduces search exposure but does not authenticate viewers and does not stop someone from forwarding the link. Write every poll as if another person could receive the URL, and keep confidential material somewhere designed for confidential access.

When not to participate

If a shared poll asks for a secret, pressures you to reveal private information, appears to target or humiliate someone, involves illegal or dangerous activity, or claims to be an official election or authorization process, do not treat it as a valid PickTogether use. Do not submit sensitive information just because it appears inside a poll interface.
